Dentistry’s Best Kept Secrets

Dr. Seay’s insights for finding the perfect dentist for you.

Dr. Seay is a firm believer in patient education and general transparency. Here we will tell you everything that you need to know about the craft and level of expertise you should expect from an Accredited Cosmetic Dentist. Dr. Seay, an Award-winning Clinician, shares some tips and insider secrets on what to look for in regards to your dental health.

Patients should be in the know, too.

Your teeth are nothing to take lightly, therefore we encourage you to ask questions. Where is your dentist being trained? What do local state laws require? The science behind dentistry is always evolving, and we believe that the consumer should be kept just as informed as the professionals operating on them. When choosing a provider, education is paramount to finding a practice that is committed to excellence.

Our clinic is grounded in education – for both staff and patients. In addition to being an Accredited Cosmetic Dentist through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Amanda Seay is a Clinical Instructor at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington.

It’s important to spend time with your doctor.

Does your provider hurry through appointments just to make ends meet? Do appointments run on-time or does your doctor overcommit and leave you sitting in the waiting room? Spending time with your doctor is essential to ensuring that they are truly there for you, and not simply to pay the bills.

Ask your dentist about their previous experience and review photographs of their work.

What can your doctor provide to shows you history of their work? Do they have documented cases and photographed procedures? Are they able to explain why they should be your dentist and how they perform the work that they do?

Photos are important to review for any dental work but especially crucial for cosmetic cases. If you’re looking to change your smile, both the doctor and the patient need to agree on the color, sizes, and shapes pertaining to your procedure. When communicating these desires, it’s important that all parties are on the same page. This is why our practice is equipped with an in-office Smile Photography Studio. Fees often reflect the materials used.

Like any science, dentistry materials are constantly being refined and improved. Most often, the strongest, best-looking, and longest-lasting materials are not going to be the cheapest. Ask in-depth questions about the materials your doctor chooses to ensure your needs are met. Just remember – good work is not cheap… and cheap work is usually not good.

Continual education is not only recommended, but required.

A doctor’s training is of vital importance; however, having a highly-trained dental team is also essential to a successful practice. Is the team attentive and professional? Are they using their best practices and making you feel at ease? If not, it’s time to reevaluate and bring your beautiful smile elsewhere.

Our dentistry practice is committed to going above and beyond the required training. While South Carolina dentists are required by law to complete 28 hours of continued education, Dr. Amanda Seay has completed ### hours of training this year alone. Hygienists and assistants must complete ### hours of continued education each year. This ongoing training benefits both the practice and the patients – ensuring that you feel 100% comfortable in the hands of your dental team.

Perform a personal inspection. (Really, it’s okay!)

You should walk into a clean, friendly environment where the staff is readily available to serve all of your dental needs. Cluttered offices, outdated material, and antiquated techniques are often signs that your practice environment is not participating in the due-diligence required to keep up with the science and art that is dentistry. We encourage you to stop by our clinic during regular office hours to take a tour of the facility.
