We were thrilled to attend the Lucy Hobbs Project Celebration this month, held locally at the Francis Marion Hotel, where Dr. Seay was recognized for her 2015 recognition as the Woman to Watch. Additionally, Dr. Theresa Gonzales, Director of Orofacial Pain Management and Pathology at MUSC College of Dental Medicine, was awarded the 2016 Industry Icon Award.
Lucy Hobbs was the first licensed female dentist in the US, after first being refused admission to dental school because she was a woman. Her determination paved the way for gender equality in the profession and today the Lucy Hobbs Project works to empower women and continue to promote equality.
Dr. Patricia Blanton, Interim Dean of the MUSC College of Dental Medicine, gave a wonderful CE and keynote speach. Dr. Seay and Dr. Gonzales also addressed the audience with reflections on their careers and words of encouragement for current female dentists and dental students.
